Cabela's the World's Foremost Outfitter of Outdoor Gear has an opening for an IT Portfolio Manager in the IT department. This position is located at our corporate office in Sidney, NE. JOB DESCRIPTION: The IT Portfolio Manager is responsible for partnering with business unit senior business management, IT Application Development and Infrastructure management to understand the overall demand for project services. This includes activities such as facilitating the creation of a serena request through the Opportunity Assessment (OA) process, reviewing level of effort/estimation/sizing of proposals, working with the PMO Resource Manager in the identification of resources needed, and managing the expectations of project delivery through the identified Opportunity Assessment priority process. This position oversees the Information Technology small project portfolio (OA's) and ensures alignment of resources and priorities. In addition, the position will contribute to the PMO combined project portfolio management discipline or other process improvements. Other duties as follows: • Establish and maintain a high level of partnership with applications domains. • Work with project sponsors and assigned project managers to clearly define requests and projects • Assist with the development and management of the OA process which includes partnering with IT Business Relationship Managers and business unit managers throughout the enterprise for creation of initial project estimates and financial scoping. • Collaborate with OA Steering Committee and other IT Managers and Business Managers to ensure alignment of priorities. • Formally launch project by ensuring resource and schedule alignment within affected teams. • Ensure systems requirements and solutions remain aligned with business unit strategy and business unit's management intent by reviewing OA charters, OA development through the OA Change Management Process. • Support OA Sponsors, Project Managers and Technical Managers by serving as an escalation point for OA scope and schedule discussions. • Participate in creation of an overall project portfolio schedule and roadmap for Cabela's and IT. • Propose an optimal OA portfolio schedule and manage the OA process for gaining buy-in and approval from the OA Steering Committee managers. KEY DUTIES: • Manage the creation of Opportunity Assessments throughout the enterprise into the OA Steering Committee, seeking approval for OA's to be funded and authorized. Works with business unit executives, directors, and managers in this process with business relationship managers, business analysts and project managers in the creation, review, and approval processes. Manage risk management processes through the OA Prioritization process, OA Review Process, and OA Change Control Process. • Manage the process of evaluating on going OAs, newly authorized OAs as to their prioritization in the overall PMO portfolio. Manage and facilitate regular reviews of the OA portfolio to ensure that it is balanced to resource availability (dollars, people, and time) and aligned to the corporate governing strategies. • Manage the creation of materials, facilitate meetings and present monthly overviews of all active OAs to senior IT Management and the OA Steering Committee. Lead discussion on OA issues that need senior management action; facilitate communication of senior management action on these issues to OA project teams. • Manage the Change Control process on approved OA projects. Review change requests as presented, determine the level of approval based on the change (PMO approval, IT approval, Steering Committee approval). Initiate action to control approved baselines resulting from the CR (budget, scope, resources, and schedules). Complete governance necessary to control the CR. • Manage assigned resources; develop performance plans, review performance to plan, be available to help DRs with issues/problems, acting as a mentor in some cases. Oversee the hiring of new resources. Manage the annual review process. • Dotted line reporting responsibility to the Enterprise Portfolio Manager on the OA project portfolio to ensure uniform governance processes are developed and rigor installed to enforce compliance across all areas of Portfolio Management within the PMO and IT. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor's degree with 6-8+ years of experience • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred • Program Management Professional (PgMP) preferred • Must be able to demonstrate having managed and led projects in the past 2 to 5 years with progressive advancement in project management responsibilities over the past 2 to 8 years. Must also be able to demonstrate having managed a portfolio of projects. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
